Between January 2020 and August 2023, a total of 1913 drug supply cases were registered in 43 jails across Punjab, as reported by the Jail Department. Notably, Central Jail Adiala had the highest incidence with 1270 cases.
Other jails, including Central Jail Kot Lakhpat Lahore (255 cases), Central Jail Multan (64 cases), and Bhakkar Jail (31 cases), also reported drug supply incidents. Several additional Punjab jails documented varying numbers of such cases, with District Jail Attock (27 cases), Central Jail Sahiwal (15 cases), District Jail Khanewal (10 cases), District Jail Gujrat (5 cases), Wahdat Jail (35 cases), District Jail Shahpur (7 cases), and Central Jail Faisalabad (5 cases) among them.
The Jail Department has undertaken actions against individuals and officials involved in drug supply following routine inspections and checks, according to the department’s spokesperson.
