
“FAISALABAD: Pakistan’s cherished national drink, tea, has witnessed an astonishing surge in consumption, with the nation having spent more than Rs31 billion on tea in just two months.
According to data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), during the first two months of the current fiscal year, Pakistani citizens consumed tea valued at over Rs31 billion.
Official documents reveal that tea imports during July and August in the current fiscal year amounted to Rs31 billion and Rs640 million. In comparison, during the same period last year, the nation consumed tea worth Rs30 billion. This year, tea imports have surged by Rs11 billion, with August 2023 alone witnessing imports of tea worth Rs15 billion and Rs910 million.
In contrast, during August 2022, Pakistan imported tea valued at Rs10 billion and 290 million rupees.
These figures underscore the enduring passion for tea in Pakistan and the substantial growth in consumption in recent times.”
